Talk about build quality!
« on: 29 August 2008, 00:03:32 »

I was driving along in my Hyundai Sonata the other day and indicated to turn left.

Unfortunately the indicator stalk just fell off! ;D :'(

Has anyone get any good examples of poor build quality?

BMW switchgear, tends to either fall off or fall apart.

Visited friends in Seattle in the early 1990s and marvelled at how they didn't think it strange that the shut lines on their 2 year old Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight were so big you could almost slide your hand in there - and it wasn't even the result of a crash repair, it was how it came out of the factory.

Very disappointing thread this.  I was looking forward to all kinds of funny stories.  I guess build quality must be spot on these days.

Had to hire a car in the mid 80's and hired an escort. Went to shut door and it didn't shut properly so gave it a bump with my hip, as you do, and put a dent in it. Hire company boss not too pleased when we took it back. Didn't tell him what really happened, said must have been bumped in a carpark. Thank god for collision waiver insurance. Metal bodywork so thin it put me off Fords for life.

I once hired a van, closed the drivers door, then all the door glass shattered all over.

I was moving house at the time so had to drive 650 miles with no door glass!
