Cam set up
« on: 06 April 2020, 19:52:43 »

Hello (again) it's the Frank Spencer of motoring here again...

As the timing belt gracefully slipped, the cams are now out.

Is it just a case of resetting them to the marks (after removing belt again) then refitting the belt?

Grateful for any help.

Sorry for being a useless pain in the proverbial, I did used to be able to do this before I got this stupid incurable illness.

I believe Haynes covers the procedure as part of a camshaft change...

You're dead right there! Just printing it off now, I forgot I had downloaded the Haynes Manual...……..

Not difficult, if you have the crank tool fitted and aligned to TDC, turn the crank 60°(ish) anticlockwise. Do this gently, as you might need to turn various cams to prevent bending valves. If it isn't fitted, then you need to be especially careful when turning the crank.

Then set each pair of cams using the gauge and install the appropriate cam locks. This is much easier if you manage to grow a third hand first ;D

Now turn the crank clockwise so the tool engages on the waterpump

Fit the belt as normal

Or use an M6 nut and bolt with a couple of washers and not drill anything...  :D
