Should I change car????
« on: 02 September 2008, 11:09:54 »

Hi all

Thinking of selling my MV6 and getting a Mitsubishi FTO. Never driven an FTO and so have no idea how it compares with the Omega.

I love my Omega but it needs some work including Cambelt, Wheel Bearing and the exhaust manifold is blowing.
 :o
Has anyone ever driven an FTO. WHat are they like??

Any advice greatly appreciated. I realise that the opinions I get might be heavily biased but thought I would get as many opinions as possible.

THanks

I did when i worked for Mitsubishi about 9 years ago and they where not much to write home about. If you want a Mitsubishi then go for the Galant VR4 much better than the rest i think and cheap to buy but if it was me keep the MV6 as that is a much nicer drive :y

Garage clear out in March 2011 and I will have a large amount of omega parts going very cheap.

FTO...

Looks like it should chase a Porche...

... Has trouble keeping up with a Mondeo

(mate has one and my Mondeo Si can out pace it let alone the Omega)

I drove my brother's when he had 1. His was a Mivec version and was very good in the corners, but I was comparing to a Senator at the time. The downside to the handling was the board hard suspension ... swings & roundabouts ....
When my brother drove my Senator though, he was very impressed with the straight line acceleration of mine though. I suppose size does matter  ::) .... comparing 3.0 with 2 litres and fancy cams.
Body parts are available, but he had to search for them at the time, Mitsubishi didn't want to know about 'grey imports'. I believe they're a bit better now though.
Manuals seem less common than the semi-auto tiptronic type.

All you can do is test drive the FTO and then it will easier to make the decision.

I'm guessing that if I did the cam belt, wheel bearing and exhaust manifold and a full service (which is also long overdue) then the Omega might feel like a whole different car?

At the minute it feels a little sluggish under hard acceleration.

Also ... if you think the passenger side plugs are difficult on a V6 then have a look where the rear 3 plugs are on an FTO  :o - transverse engine.

Galant VR-4's are rarer than hen's teeth - and you'll still pay over £5k for a ten yr old one  :(
