I thought that you had to pay for a TV License now, unless you were eligible for Pension Credit. My mum is 85 and my Dad is 91 and they were told via letter that they had to pay now. This was following a rule change in June 2020.
They have paid for their current TV License, which was renewed in September 2020.

your right - for almost 12yrs i was under the knife having ops for what was diagnosed as Exercise Related Compartment Syndrome. i was a rigger & scaled heights with big weights on my shoulder & off a ladder onto a platform my right leg was always my push off leg & eventually i got muscle bound in that leg. because it wasn,t picked up by my doctor for 8yrs i ended up with bone problems which in turn left me suffering with shin splints. with being classed as self employed and my wife in work i couldn,t claim any benefits. hence from the age of 42 to 53 i had no employment history. best of it if my wife had worked 2 hours less i would have been entitled to income support. its a long story but when i reached 68 an organisation that look after ex merchant seaman & fishermen appointed a guy from Hull to check if i was entitled to any payments & consequently get pension credit. its not a lot but has other perks .dental care etc

Fair do's, and fair play to you. My response certainly wasn't intended as a criticism or judgemental.  :y  My Dads pension is decent so he has to pay, which he hasn't grumbled about in fairness.  :y

I wouldn't mind paying for a tv licence, it's just that it's not a tv licence. It's a tax to pay for our national broadcaster, which should reflect every part of society without any political or social bias. The BBC couldn't be any further away from that criteria.

Despite the fact that it is legally obliged to do so. If the Tories have abolition of public funding of the BBC in their next manifesto, I will break the habit of a lifetime and vote for them.

Never voted for them in my life - so far. Joined the party a couple of years ago, so I could vote on who would be PM once the MP,s grew a pair and dumped Treasonous Theresa.  ;)
