Whilst definitely not the best year I have ever experienced, has 2020 been universally that bad? Its been different, very different, but can't say its been as bad as the media are telling us its been.
For 70,000+ families, its been shittier than many. Not sure what the usual annual death rate is, or how big a proportion of those 70,000 wouldn't be with us anyway now.
I think 2020 has shown that, in addition to there being complete utter oppswits who couldn't care less about others, it has brought out the very best in more normal people. Its
enabled forced less tech savvy people to embrace some of the technological marvels available, including video conferencing. Its shown to many companies that home working, properly managed, can work better for both the employer and employee... ...though its unlikely many of the larger companies will continue with home working the majority of the time - though I think that is more an insight into what directors do when working at home

Not being able to see so much of friends and family isn't great. But a lot of that hole has been filled with video calls etc. TBH, I think I've seen more of my complete family (ignoring my sister, she don't count) on calls in 2020 that I would normally. In the TB family, we normally only all get together at family events, partly due to the hassle of getting everyone together, and the amount of travelling needed. 2020 was simply a case of getting laptop/tablet/whatever out at a set time every month...
I can't imagine many of us will forget 2020 - its been a year that has globally impacted everyone, in the same way 9/11 or Apollo* - but it will be a year I look back on with very mixed emotions.
*I was going to include WWII, but that is on the verge of being dropped from living memory.
