£27.50 plus fuel and parking vs £75 on the train... 🤔 It's a close call...

It really isn't.

If I get a suitable train, most of the London stations are 45 minutes away. 45 minutes in the car might get me to New Cross. Another 45 minutes and I might see the river. Then there's parking, paying for it and the LEZ and all the other crap.

Driving isn't an option, unless I'm ringing at Walworth on a Sunday.

I've been driving in London for over 30 years, and the Chelsea Cruises were the only time that driving was the only choice.
I suspect that your train fare is similar to mine rather than £75 though ;)

£111 off peak day return from Nottingham (about 1hr 50 journey), drive 20 mins to Grantham and its £55 and only about 1hr.

So your trip sounds pretty cheap  >:(

Chiltern Slug is well over £70 for a return (40mins each way), and £8.50 parking.  So your prices look fairly reasonable.

Driving is usually the best option.  For me, going into the centre of the City of London, its about 15mins longer, the parking isn't that much more than Chiltern's prices, and even with the congestion and ULEZ charges, ends up being a similar price.  And you can guarantee a seat on a car, its covid secure, and you're not contaminated by the great unwashed.  No brainer.

I frequently have to spend many nights there, and the world's biggest shithole I have ever witnessed is Wembley (High Street, not the bit round the stadium).

Wembley?? You must be joking.

Head for Canning Town, Poplar or Limehouse. Thamesmead if you're feeling really brave and your satnav is up to date.

Wembley, not Wembley Stadium.  One is fairly posh for West London, the other is a shithole even by Hell standards.

Since moving I still need to go there now and again, usually an overnight stay.

£60 open return with Senior railcard. 4 hour one way journey

If there's two of us I drive, Free parking at hotel in suburbs (nice suburbs not s***thole suburbs).
