Case in point Mother's Kindle has stopped holding a charge. It is about 8 years old  ::)

Looks at the new Fire 8/10. To get it ad 'free' you either pay extra (and still get Amazon ads or you save £70 and lump it.

New Lenovo 10" tablet with significantly more Ram and storage, like 4x more, for £30 more than the cheaper Fire 8.

Kindle down loaded from Play store, for free. And voilą, one large screen eReader (that is capable of much more) without any of Amazons BS.

Incidentally, a case for it was cheaper from Lenovo than buying an aftermarket one from Amazon.

And both delivered next day, but someone else. It's the little wins...  ;D

Back to about 20 posts ago. I don't just buy for cheapness, although that is a consideration, I buy for my own, lazy arsed convenience.

The case was a genuine one :P from the Lenovo shop. The tablet could have also come from there, but John Lewis was the preferred supplier of the end user...

Yes ;D

But it was more of an 'as long as it isn't from Amazon on principle' thing than an anti Chinesey one. After all most electronic stuff is made there but at least buy buying from a brand you have half a chance of it lasting more than five minutes/working as expected / having some sort of meaningful warranty as the official manufacturing has some semblance of quality control.  ;)

SWMBO's went tits up last year the one with the buttons on the side. She now has a Paperwhite version and she hates it.  ;D  Touch screen only, when she just moves her hand slightly, the page she is reading disappears. ::)
