Today in the world of the purple project I've been carrying on with the inner rear arches. Both sides looked to have surface rust but nothing too bad until I started digging... Where the floor meets the inner arches under the back seat - both sides have rotted under the seam sealer.

This is as well as the spare wheel well which felt a bit... Flexible... And also had rotted the outer 1/2 inch almost all the way round.

On the plus side I was expecting the rear turrets to be made of hope and underseal but luckily they've survived.

But yes, anyone who still has one... Give it a good check before it becomes terminal! It's only my patented cocktail of idiocy and stubbornness that's going to get this one back on the road!

this is a common area on lots of cars and i would imagine most omegas would have had this area redone by now . mine and my brothers certainly have .along with various carltons and senators in the past .
but yes worth mentioning as  there will be some that still look ok there but as we know .looks can be deceiving !

Mine have been done three years ago, 2001 model and that time driven less than 300 000km.

most cars have rust prone areas that show themselves eventually . some earlier than others .
some similarly built cars have areas that their predessesors didnt have or vice versa .
for example early mk2 and mk2 carltons and senators rarely had trouble with front chassis leg tops whereas mk2 and senator b used to crumble there for fun !  omegas hardly ever ( on the tops anyway !)
there are not many areas on omegas that would write them off rust wise especially if you do your own work but at garage prices thats a totally different story and its heartbreaking to see omegas in scrapyards with only minor rust . one springs to mind that ive seen recently in a scrapyard . mot fail states rear of sills and one inner arch . that car would not be there for an afternoons work but hey ho !!
