Some yes.

That was the era where quality control was terrible. I believe something like 1 in a 100 tyres fitted on delivered cars were faulty. That led Jaguarto change suppliers from Dunlop.

My dad had a new car that we fitted an Eflow sound deadening kit to. We lifted the back seat and there was a bushel of unused self tappers. To this day, I believe someone on the production line got rid of the self tappers that didn’t line up every soften under a seat.

Peak BL.

Some proper crap rolled off the production line back then. You could say quality control was poor, but more likely it didn't exist at all.

I wonder what these 'plummy-voiced' gentlemen from 1972 would make of the 2025 Jag advert.

I imagine they would think a sound thrashing and national service was required. >:D

Those 'plummy-voiced' gentlemen from 1972 looked and sounded like the sort that might have enjoyed a sound thrashing from a leather clad dominatrix.  :-X   ;D

Some did certainly sound like that......................but as for £50 for a set of tyres, I don't think so! ::) ::)

I paid £10 per corner for remoulds in 1971 for my Austin A40.  For new, branded tyres, for a Jag XJ12, it must have been far more than £50 for a set!!  I think I can remember that for my 1972 Ford Escort Mk1 my company paid about £150 for a set of radials in 1975 (??) :D ;)

As it only cost £3750 I suppose there was extra money left over for tyres and petrol (lots of it) >:D

This puts me in mind of the average car price when compare do the average house.

In 1968 the 'average' MK 2 Cortina 1600 was around £850......so less than 3 average cars to the cost of an average house.

In 2025 there is probably 7 average cars to the cost of an average house. :-X
