So he's got a Ford type 9 gearbox in it (because the BL one was cr@p) and a Ford head on it (because the BL one was cr@p) and it now goes through big ends (because the BL block is cr@p). Begs the question of why he didn't use the Zetec block (which can reliably rev to >7k in standard form) as well, then he wouldn't have had to spend time bodging the gearbox onto a B series block and he'd have a better setup entirely.

In fact, assuming you arrive at a decent engine and gearbox why, why, oh why would you put it in a Marina?

The engine from a 2CV would be adequate to completely overwhelm the dire suspension on a Marina.

About the same time I had my Marina Coupe, a mate had a Viva Coupe which looked quite cool back in the day! 

It had a 1300cc engine though, so it didn't have the raw power of my 1800TC!

My mate had an 1800 Magnum and that was slow. Putting a 1256 Viva engine in them was just silly.

It looks as though it weighs SFA  so the standard 2 litre 4 pot lump made them pretty quick. A big V8 can only improve things.
