His parents and close friends must have known that most of his claims were false. Considering his mental health problems, why didn't they try to curb his behaviour instead of letting it become so problematic?

Incorrect....

Police investigating Jason Ardays death, have confirmed they believe it’s murder.
However, they have allowed the media to report it as suicide just so he can take credit for someone else’s work one last time.
