Finally got around to pressurising the coolant system on hers, the coolant loss is from a metal pipe across the front.

In true JLR style, you can't buy just the metal pipe, you have to buy the 2 rubber pipes either end as well.  Brummie idiots.


Surprisingly, I can't find in the official docs how to replace it.  If I just change the metal bit, it looks fairly straightforward once the EGR pipe is off and some of the intake.  Not sure if the throttle has to come off though, its a little tight under there.

Fitted a new n/s drive shaft (could just have changed outer cv boot but a good quality one is £24 where a complete drive shaft from well known manufacturer is £34 and a lot easier to change)also changed both track rod ends and bottom balljoints-could have got away with just n/s ones but they're both done now-on new purchase(2weeks ago)Volvo S80.

Have to say the length of SP38 gives the Tail of The Dragon a run for it's money

Took the Aygo X for a run over to Boston just to look at a Land cruiser they've got for sale, very nice good mileage but they won't budge on the price for a cash sale so walked away , they've got my number if they have second thoughts.

Failed to separate a metal coolant pipe from a rubber coolant pipe.  To try to get more access, failed to remove JLR's famous quick release coolant connectors on the top hose as well.


Which looking around the engine bay, noted that Sir Ian Callum saw fit to place an electrical connector right underneath a coolant pipe join as well.  Not once, but twice.  It is silly design oversights like this that JLR really do need to get on top of in my opinion, and move away from the BL mentality of :we've always done it like that"

Being somewhat bored during a poorly managed morning scrum call that had zero relevance to me, I had a quick look - the advantage od DECT cordless headphones, they have an excellent range - and managed to separate the 2 pipes.  So tonight I'll fit the new pipe

I'd always do that on Teams meetings.    Camera off and headset on and I could still potter about doing something else lol.

Turns out, in all the wiggling to separate the pipes, I broke another rigid plastic coolant hose.  So replaced that as well now, and put some coolant back in it.


As it's taken a little longer than planned, she's been using my car, which is no bad thing, as I will be changing the oil on age rather than mileage soon.....    ....and I replace it at 1yr or 4k, whichever comes first
