There may be hope for my knackered alloys yet!
« on: 26 September 2008, 16:28:01 »

I spent time last weekend trying to sand my old alloys by hand and fill the gaps - and it turned out to be a hopeless excercise, they just seemed too far gone.

I bought an attachment from Wilkinson for my drill yesterday, so I could use it as a power sander. I just tried it out and I am absolutely amazed with the results (using cheap Wilko sanding paper too!)

I tried it on the most heavily kurbed part of one of the wheels, with plenty of soapy water - and it has completely removed the kurbing damage. It's smooth, like new!!

They'll need repainting and priming afterwards, but I am sure I can get them as new this way. I will need to fill in a couple of the larger scores on the wheel itself, not the outer rim - but ultimately I can forsee a good result now.

It's good that I'm pretty handy with a spray can too - anyone know what primer and paint to use??

 :)

A good aerosol primer from a paint factors that do aerosol mixing and then WURTH paint which is a perfect match for the OEM GM finish ,get it from E bay .Finish using either Wurth or U Pol No 1 UV resistent lacquer again available in aerosol format.
Go for it James.........
