Cut Backs :-)
« on: 30 September 2008, 20:31:22 »

Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas, oil, and petrol ........the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off.

We apologise for any inconvenience

I heard something similar on the news that councils were wanting to turn off street lights to safe electric. :-/

I lived in Germany for a while, in a smaller town, and they switched the lights off in the middle of the night.  The turned all the traffic lights onto a flashing amber that meant nobody had right of way and you just had to slow down and take a bit of care.  Made sense to me - at least for a small town.  Crime rate was quite low there though.

Seemed sensible to me.  But they enforced rubbish separation - they actually had 'Bin' police sifting through stuff every now and again to make sure people were recycling properly.  If they could prove you weren't you got heavily fined.

Didn't have half the problems with kids tearing around the streets, hanging on corners, drinking, smoking, or being doped up to the eyeballs.   :-/

They could put movement sensors on the street lamps --- t'would be eerie being a lone car going along as the road lights up ahead of you and the darkness chases you  :o

Lots of companies doing this with corridor lights now. It pays back during low traffic periods, like at night.

The technology is there.  :y

we put them in the next retail store in chester, lights go off if no movement in store area, and it is a bit strange when they go off after you walk away :)
