bloody doctors.......
« on: 18 October 2008, 18:53:51 »

me poor old mum is currently in a benidorm hospital awaiting an operation to remove some gallstones, hopefully on Monday morning.
she was having pains a week before going on holiday but was told it was only a water infection and was given some tablets -then a few days into the holiday she was rushed into hospital with perforations caused by the gallstones.
she told the doctors that she suspected that was the problem but they laughed at her and gave her the tablets- I'm furious but have been told by me old man to leave it and he will deal with it when they come back ! >:(
the doctors in the benidorm hospital are amazed at the amount of tablets she has been given for various problems and have stopped them all immediately- this is not the first time this has occured as my missus was recently on 7 different pills a day which all seemed to cause her other problems !!!
anyone else had this quality of health service?

Unfortunatly mate most of the NHS is governed by inadeque and substandard service these days (which I am a part of  :-[) D :-[ docs are required to work on a 'turnaround' basis which teats the first commoly assumed condition ... 47% of the time this is wrong as in your case.

I know how painful it is to have gall stones and I am sure you mum would much rather be at home... However this is a pattern of mis informed diagnoses that is becoming more prevelent.

My advice to you id to contact your local PALS (patient advice and liasion service) when you get home to ask for a full explanation. (She may well be entitled to compensation if NICE guidline were not followed) which will please the insurance company and give your mum some £££ for the trouble.

I know you're angry at the way your Mum has been treated and I would probably feel the same.

But there may be a silver lining. My Dad recently died of acute pancreatitis, a common cause of which is gallstones. From fully fit to induced coma in 3 days, he then stayed like that for 4 weeks. I guess I am saying - it could be worse.

Good luck to you and your Mum and good luck getting it sorted out when she gets back.

But... and this is a big but... People have a right to the best healthcare. Not saying anything bad, or, implying owt but where our NHS fails we need to make them aware... its the only way things imporve.  :y

Over the past few days I have had a lot of involvement with GP’s, Consultants, Hospitals, Nurses and ancillary staff, and not forgetting McMillan Nurses. :y

I have always felt I have received a first class service, this includes as much time in appointments as I have felt the need. :) :) :)

I know that is not everyone’s experience, but the NHS deserves positive comment where it is due. :y

Sorry about Your Mum and hope she comes through OK :y
