sounds like an exchange line card fault

broadband still works as it is applied to the line after the exchange (Switch)

BT have got some new initiatives on for Right First Time etc so they are out to impress!
We don't know enough to suggest where fault is, unless you have checked the line test result ;)

New initiatives? They were new 20yrs ago when they did Right First Time then - then under the TQM banner (ask any of the old boys).  Sadly, your current senior management lack any compitence, so claim rehashed ideas are new.

Have just finished speaking with a nice lady from BT called Jenny (on the mobile)

Apparently, for the last 2 days BT have thought the problem was in the exchange (it takes 2 days to find that out?) But, now the exchange is not the problem.

The engineer checking the exchange has got to sign the job over to another engineer, (called a UG) .... I am told this means underground engineer. :-/

BT can not tell me when the UG engineer will come out, other than saying as soon as they can. Your guess is as good as mine.

So that is where we are at the moment.....can anyone tell me what a UG engineer does? (TB possibly)

PS by the way diverted call were not diverted.

So no phone again tonight, oh well:-* :-* :-*

UG means underground fault.

About 15yrs ago, BT tried (and as far as I know never truely suceeded) in making all external staff mutliskilled, and able to do all non exchange faults - that was when I got out of that job.  I'm sure you'd love me in your house across your white carpet after I'd been playing with dirty, greasy underground cables.

White carpets..I think not.

Actually the whole of our ground floor is covered with beautiful Italian floor tiles, very nice but a bit cold in winter.

Seriously though,I hope that these BT UG engineers can get it all sorted out quickly. :-* :-* :-* :-*

Some of the UG jobs I did took 7 days (my record), and I dug that many holes, the housing estate looked like the bloody Somme.

The muppets gave us faulty equipment, no wonder I couldn't locate the fault

Just an update.

The UG guy came and has located the fault to just outside the exchange.

Only people with breathing apparatus are allowed to access where the fault is. Apparently, there is a manhole cover which goes deep underground, with a series of chambers going off that only certain engineers can go down.

Unfortunately these guys were down in these chambers only a few days ago, just when the fault developed. Could it be that they knocked something and caused the fault themselves :o :o :o ;)

Anyway could be a few days before its fixed :-* :-*

BT have now informed me that all works should be completed by Tuesday 11th November.

Let's hope so. :-* :-* :-*
