Ex Police MV6 -engine mods?
« on: 14 November 2008, 22:47:44 »

I have acquired an ex-Police MV6 estate auto, T-reg. It seems to go quite well although mileage is 141,000. Did police vehicles have uprated performance options fitted, eg chipped engine ECU etc?

Apparently it was used as a police pursuit vehicle. It's lacking all the usual extras such as sunroof and has cloth seats, steel wheels, etc.

And the extra weight of additional wiring looms, minus aircon, plus cheap seats, minus alloys, plus chopped sound system electrics, and bog standard tuning aided and abetted by piss poor servicing, irrespective of what the 'service shecdule' tries to kid you of...

Basically, poverty spec car, trim wise, with standard MV6 engine and box and suspension.  Weighs a little less than standard car so a tad faster....  ;)

The fact many have LSD (which is lower ratio) does make them a bit perkier on acceleration

Broocie you haven't taken into consideration the reduced weight due to the lack of do-nuts.  ;)  :)

Thanks for all the comments, very useful.

Yes, the interior is very cheapskate. Worse, a potter has been using it for carrying around clay and stuff, and his children have beaten the door cards to bits. But I only bought it for the 3.0 engine to go in my troubled 3.0 Elite LPG estate. The engine has had extensive work and a new water pump, cambelt etc only 100 miles ago. I figured that by the time I'd taken my Elite engine apart and replaced the auto gearbox (which is also fubared) I might just as well replace the whole lot with a good one from another car, if one could be found. Fortunately, one could, albeit after a wait of a couple of months and scouring eBay every day morning, afternoon and evening!

Interesting about the possibility of the LSD -are they something that people ask for?

Trouble is, every time I buy a car with some MOT -until July '09 -I'm tempted to drive it around instead of breaking it, and it really does go very well indeed. Much more assured handling, steering and braking  than the Elite estate or the CDX 2.5 saloon I'm driving around in as a  daily car. I'm tempted to put the suspension etc on the Elite as well as the engine.
