Webasto heater(in tractors)
« on: 11 December 2008, 22:48:47 »

does the omega tractor have one. It pre warms the interior on a bmw e39 5 series touring. My mate has posted on the bmw forum and nobody knows why it does not work. Does the mig tractor have one and if so how do you fix it.

Known reasons for failure on the bmw are, flat battery, must be bellow 5 degrees, and any faults cleared or it will lock out.

Anybody?

Sounds like the aux heater on the fraud Shalaxy (Sharan/Galaxy/Alhambra)  Has to be cold enough etc then a small diesel heater puts extra warmth into the cooling system so the heater works earlier.  Or it should.....
Lots of white smoke if it won't ignite  ::)

New glow plug didn't fix it  >:(

Dont think the mig tractors have one......tho i'll stand corrected if they do.
My merc c220 cdi had one.....there was an override switch to turn it off.....iirc outside temp had to be below 7C and water temp less than 70C.....my merc had two failures on it......1st one it never turned off unless i pressed the override switch.....thermostat had gone and water temp never got to 70C (in the winter).....new stat cured that prob. Other prob....and maybe your mates prob.....it never turned on.....problem was outside temp sensor......used to think even in the winter.....it was 38C outside all the time :o New sensor fixed it  :y

The Omega 2.2 diesels have them.....its a Wesbasto unit and mounted under the drivers side wing.

Known things that stop them working

1) Failed temps ensor (clipped to the pollen filter housing on the Omega)

2) Internal faults (i.e. fan failed)

This will need to be investigated Mark. I'll need to have a shufftie around the engine bay over the weekend as having a preheater may even be an excuse for keeping it a while longer.

Thanks for replys, funny thing is  the car has none of the other faults mentioned that may stop it working, but another e39 (2.5d) has a buggered outside temp sensor reading minus 40 and the pre heater works fine or wont turn of? Anyway, i guess the unit itself is buggered on my mates car? Never layed eyes on one myself but can these be taken apart or is it just a case of swapping it out? Ta

The Wesbasto units use a SEPERATE temp sensor from that which is connected to the display on the Omega....maybe the BMW is the same

Yes i should have twigged that(seperate sensor) when you said it was clipped to the pollen filter.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Back out into the cold, i look forward to ac issues in the summer. Heaters in winter is no fun, no fun at all.

Ar said drivers side wing on mig. Bm is pass side wing
Between wheel and door frame. About the size of a cd changer with pipes and electrical connectors on top. Would be nice to have that working up there
on the edge of the world...
We tried getting the bugger to fire up which it did for about a second and just stopped. Webasto say the motherboard goes in em. And not a changeable item. 700 new from bmw. Arse.

I wonder if they make em all the same or if their manufacturer specific? No that would be to simple.
