mobility scooters

I was talking to my dad in hospital today and he`s been told by another patient that all mobility scooters now have to have a reg plate fitted and be taxed and insured and registered with the dvla???? do any of you guys know owt bout this as i bought 1 of these ages ago for me mum and dad to get around on.... :-?

no legislation in place for this , this would mean it would need a mot same as disability cars.(would look funny on the ramp)

No idea matey, To be driven on the road I understand the theory, but not sure about most of the electric pavement ones.

Dont think so.  Max speed limit is the cutoff, if I remember.  5 mph max?  If less, then its a disability scooter and not a 'car' albeit that you can still be done for drunk driving on one....

ive never seen one with a plate on, strange to be honest. i know one day were all be driving one and be going to mobility scooter meets  ;D ;D

No I have a disabled friend who has a mobility scooter which certainly does not have to be quipped with number plates, therefore tax disc, therefore MOT, etc!! ;D ;D ;)

a lady in atherton near me has hers registered (on a Q plate) she uses it on the local roads aswell as the atherleigh way ( locals will know the road ) it's only a little battery thing. dont know why it's registered tho.

There isnt any legislation for invalid scooters intended for footway use,legislation exists for invalid three wheeled self powered scooters inteneded for queens highway and more than 4/5 mph? cant remember exactly..scooters intended for footway use driven on the highway can be ticketed (would be harsh but hey)

I was just going to say that I've seen a Q reg scooter recently .... Bury town centrre I think. I wonder if she drove it there from Atherton!? :-/  ;D  ;D  ;D

hi.my dads got one(he was bad in a car)no tax or insurance needed.on a lighter note when we take him into town he should be insured for the sake of any who dares get in his way.me and my brothers recon if we have a bad day the best thing to do is let dad out on his power chair for a couple of hours and stand back and watch. :y
