Any Senator that has not moved in 3 years would need to be free to interest me!

Tunnie, Senator would be an interesting (and good) choice. But why not go for one with MOT at least?
They can be picked up for £200-£400

As for arches? Forget it.  Finding the replacement arches is not easy and their quality is questionable. Not a recommended option.

Just find one with decent mechanics and sound chasis. :)

Cheers Dave  :y

I will keep my eye out for them now i think, looking at photos of the engine bays they look very similar to that of the Omega. So i think i can find my way around!

Just out of interest, can the 3.0 24v be paper clip tested? - Also can it take standard Omega pads, i still have a set in the garage!

Tunnie try HIC for inssurance!! vauxhall specialists, also code reader hear for senny and further more my garage is full of spares for the 24v straight six!!!
and having driven them for umpteen years(got me first one in 95 and vever had another car till i got the TD I know a fair bit about them!!

Tunnie. Yes you can do the paperclip test, it has the Bosch Motronic 1.5 system. The connector is in the engine bay, passenger side by the bulkhead.

As for the pads, I am not sure which you have. The Senator has 286mm discs. Some Omegas use these, but most have 308mm.

Oh and one good thing is the autobox fluid is rather easier to change as you have a proper dipstick setup on the Senator! :)
Not mention the good old distributor (bearings on these can fail) and coil....

As you will be gathering, there are a few fans of the old girl on here! :D

308mm discs? On which car?
All 6 cylinder Omegas had 296 mm discs than all cars had them.
No Senator had a 286mm disc. 12v cars had a 280 mm disc then they had a 296 mm when the 24vv came in. These are the same discs as the Omega

Dad was just saying as i read this that the fastest police car he had was 3litre 24v Senny.

Had it at 165mph , obviously many many years ago and was a chipped car.

Unfortunatly some silly PC crashed it so they de chipped it and sold it on  :-?

What kind of chip? Police Senators as police Omegas were the same as Joe Public would buy. The biggest difference is the lack of toys in police cars which makes a considerable difference to their weight. eg who's removed seat from their Omega? They are bloody heavy. You remember on Top Gear years ago when they tested a V12 XJS against other exotics. It was P poor. Then they stripped out all of the luxury goodies and there was a marked difference.

Sounds like good news!! - a TD megga would be the sensible option, however a 3.0 Straight 6 is very temping  ;)

Loads of spares sound good too!

As i can see Dave lot of people here like them, they sound easier to work on too.

If anyone spots a senny at a good price, and has tax & mot drop me a PM. I'd be very interested!!  :D

No idea - thing to remember is that this was not a marked car and was not part of a bulk purchase, an unmarked demonstrator for Strathclyde

Sounds cool  :y

I think after discussions here, it needs:

A) Be 3.0 24v version
B) decent mot & tax prefered (although mot is more important than tax)
C) Rear arches to be in good nick

I can personally confirm that speed.   And it was fitted with a calibrated speedo.

Car I drove was a Police College driving school car circa 1991.  Chipped and remapped and fitted with uprated springs, suspension and brakes all round by Vauxhall from new and, allegedly, different top end gearing.

To those familiar with the area, imagine driving something like this down through Glencoe and similar roads with only the rev limiter (and hazards then present) as your speed governor....   :y

ps - I have a rear box (twin letterbox style outlet) and both centre sections for a 24 valve senny in my garage.  All brand new and unused.
