I don't get up to anything that they would be interested in apart from the odd bit torrent. But that's not the point.

Imagine the same as speed cameras but for internet use. All automatic. With the fixed penalty proceeds going to HM Govt.  :-/

at present most isps monitor web usage, adn the police can get this data from them but they have to ask for it and i think it has to go through a legal process (meaning they wont always get it), however i believe that is soon to change so they have to be given what they want and when they want it.

i spose if you've nothing to hide theres not much to worry about, and if you have, learn to hide it well!!!

I 100% agree with, I dont do any thing illegal online, but my point is that if it's connected to the net then it can be hacked.

If not, they cant.

All the peeps on here I am sure will post up to software details for logging etc, am sure there are ways of montitoring activity and attempts at our machines.  I for one would love to montir what goes in and out of my net connection.

you can make things fairly immune to hacking, but it all depends how much effort you want to go to.  It might raise more suspicion if the supposed innocent home user had some pretty hardcore security in place.

again, for most people usability is key, and the restrictions it would impose to enforce said security wouldn't be worth the hassle.

there are monitoring agents out there, and even some software firewalls will log attempts on ports, and even let you trace back on them, (think an old macaffee one i once used did this)

i think the best advice is to do anything illegal at work and then blame it on the colleague no one likes

i'm always wary of keyloggers which is why i don't use internet cafes or the like. so easy to give away information and not know till its too late.
