Good job I got the ex-plod... Smashed up car...
« on: 15 January 2009, 17:57:32 »

Not me, but my step dad was just involved in a RTA...  3 cars (including himself)  Happened on this stretch of road

Here

Google maps doesn't show it too well tbh... but...

Where the building is on the left of the road, its a junction to turn right (you can see the road on the right just between the trees).  There was a car indicating to turn right there into the side road for Nalco.  (left side of road, heading from bottom to top)

Step father was coming opposite way (top to bottom) other car was stationary, indicating (all well and good)

Blue Pug 406 comes 'Storming' along (from what told) from bottom to top (heading to the Fiesta which was indicating right) no time to brake, so went smack into the back...

Pug span off to the left side, all front end caved in, air bags deployed, etc...
Fiesta was shunted and span around into the path of my step dad's Focus (as he was along side it) Rear end of Fiesta has been shunted a good 2ft in.
And as for my step-dads car, the fiesta has taken out his offside rear 1/4, bumper, rear door, and the wheel looks like its sitting too far in at the top of the arch, so guessing the hub has also taken a bashing... (instead of the wheel being | its \ )

Police & ambulance were there, I went down to check he was ok/see whats going in incase he couldn't drive the car, but he brought it home.

Insurance will probably write it off given its a Y-reg 1.6 Zetec...  Cost of repair will no doubt be too expensive given the value of the car itself...  Still, see what happens when the assessors or whatever come out to look at the car.  He's been given various producers, etc, was breathalysed (standard procedure) and interviewed there n then...

Cars can be mended .. people can't... so as hes OK that is the most important thing.

Make sure that he gets checked over by a Doc if he feels any discomfort, some injuries take a while to show.

Hes ok which is good.

Car will be a write off...if it was just the quarter panel and door it would so with additional suspension damage forget as its probably also damaged the C post

Cheers guys :)

Mark I agree with the write off bit, they were adamant last night the rear wheel was ok, even though I could clearly see it was out of alignment... Car went to Fords today for assessment, and they even pointed out the wheel...

Courtesy car is coming today, so the Focus is going...
