Mobile phone upgrade time - WTG?
« on: 01 February 2009, 11:27:46 »

Wifey's contact is up for renewal,so its upgrade time.  She's had PDA's for the last few years and couldn't go back to a normal phone now.

All the ones out there seem to be either Blackberry-esque, or touch screen, but only seem work with a finger, not a stylus (Tried a Google Andriod/T-Mobile G1, but that's gone back as she doesn't want to cut her nails...).  Windows Mobile would be an advantage - in fact probably a "MUST", as is stylus operation.

Any suggestions??

Although not a full PDA phone, the Nokia E71 is bloody superb :y :y :y

It's what I'm getting in about 5 weeks :y :y

Nah...would do for me, though (have had N series for years, and want to get an E series next time).  Needs to have stylus input for SWMBO, not a tiny keyboard..

I personally use the HTC ones with slide out keyboard - I find a keyboard a bit easier for longer typing than the stylus, but the phone can do both.  The price you pay for the keyboard is the extra bulk.

Currently use an old SPV3100, if I upgraded tomorrow, HTC Touch Pro (o2 badge as XDA Serra I believe) would be top of my list.

I think HTC are doing some of the best range of Windows Phones

I'm pondering an upgrade myself, was thinking of one of these MDA Vario IV
to replace my ageing MDA Universal.

what do you have at the moment? Its always worth faking your going to leave, don't take a handset upgrade and get a silly cheap contract like mine..

Unlimited Txts
250 mins any network any time
Unlimited Internet

£10 a month!

I took off Unlimited txts cause i just was not using them, now get 250 of those instead and my monthly bill is £5!

Aye, TB..she's currently got the old MDA Vario 2 (T-Mobile) so looks like the Vario IV.  She's always been happy with the rebranded HTC stuff so will probably keep in "the family".

The phone is starting to play up occasionally, hence an upgrade might be the easiest and cheapest way to get a new one (unless anyone knows a cheap site for Sim-free ones?)..Sneaky plot by the phone companies, though - 12 months warranty and 18 month contracts...
