Must say I'm not all that surprised. My last visit was two years ago - in the ExCel centre in docklands - and it was thoroughly sh*te.

I for one won't miss it!

Yes its true its bad time for the car industry (in fact all works)

Funny though, cos the best way to strengthen your business through the credit crunch is keep up or increase your brand awareness through advertising, something the organisers could easily have exploited to their exhibitors to make it a great show. The organisers are kind of admitting defeat I'd say, don't reckon there's any coming back from that a year or two late without a mahoosive investment from sponsors, which would be difficult to secure after a break like that.

Mind you, if it were sh1te to start with I suppose its probably going to protect the exhibitors reputations by NOT appearing!

The last time that I went to the motor show was in 1971 or 1972 with my Dad...............Austin /Morris was proudly displaying it's latest worldbeater............The Morris Marina ................I also remember the fantastic Lotus Elan Sprint ......in gold leaf colours...........orgasmic.

Yep...................after the dreary Cortina .....................the Sierra looked like it came from a different planet .............back then.

With the response of the majority to this thread it appears that this set of car enthusiasts at least didn't bother with the show anyway!  So who did?? :-? :-? :-?

No wonder it is being kicked into touch if this was the public's general response

Yep...................after the dreary Cortina .....................the Sierra looked like it came from a different planet .............back then.

From what I recall about the launch of the Sierra was that it was not liked initially, mainly because it lacked a front grill. I was lucky and managed to get a Cavalier, company car, instead....

It was nick named the "jelly mold" at the time, but like you I was lucky enough to have a Vauxhall Cavalier, an SRi 8-) 8-)

To be fair, I have been to a few when they were at the NEC (and the manufacturers still felt the need to pepper their stands with dolly birds knowledgeable sales staff. They were a lot more fun.

The ExCel shows felt like wandering onto a giant forecourt, you always got this sense that no-one really knew why they were there.

Mind you, I did have a bit of a laugh arguing with a fellow visitor on the Range Rover stand about why a supercharged rangey was a better investment than a normal one; that got me chucked off their stand in the end.  

Let's face it - these types of shows are in terminal decline of here anyway. The Manufacturers use the Geneva show to launch new models, who here actually bought a car off a show stand? I'd rather go to a dealer and rag the arse off it drive one sensibly on a test drive.
