Big City Tyres in Nottingham offer Nitrogen tyre inflation for £2 a corner.

Apparently it stays at the same pressure, regardless of its temperature.

Main reasons for using nitrogen are 2 ; (and the reasson most aircraft tyres use nitrogen)

Nitrogen is made "dry" whilst air contains moisture, the moisture content is very susceptible to changes in temperature. It will actually condense out and freeze in very cold conditions so giving a low pressure, but will "boil" off and produce a high pressure vapour when the tyre gets really warm on a long run.

Nitrogen atoms are large in comparison to oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapour. so they have less tendency to "leak" through the miniscule gaps in the rubber of the tyre and so hold pressure far longer.

So, as said already .. nitrogen tyre pressures are far more stable than those filled with air, especially if you filled the tyre from flat on a humid, wet day.

Oh, yes, that's what started the nitrogen bit. :y
According to my dad the tyre place he had it done charged £2.40 a corner but calling in for a tyre pressure check and any top up is free for the life of the tyre. :D :D 'Tyre Services' in Darlington.
