Gave the omega a good clean today
« on: 10 August 2006, 19:56:31 »

Well had a day off today thought  the omega serves me well so I will put a bit back and make her gleam. Started about 9ish this morning and finished by about 3pm. Was not in a hurry, so enjoyed doing it. Right first thing was take the hoover to it no problem, then lifted the bonnet started to hoover in the engine bay ( I know you think I am mad) this what caused the stir, next door came out and started to take the rise out of me, then the bloke from over the road came out to join in the banter, saying they have seen it all now, the only thing i could say in my defence was such a clean engine bay should stay in that condition, so I think I saved a bit of face as they could see the bits of dust being removed. Next wash the car over and then started to polish her, I could not believe it another person from a couple doors up walked up my drive and said you must be selling the omega, the answer was no way, have taken a day off to put some time into the omega. Might next time take it to a valet to save all the nosey neighbours. But one thing I can say it has been a real nice time today cleaning the car and away from work, also with all phones at home switched of untill teatime.

Yup, i get this too. People think it's unusual to want to have a clean car.  :-?

nobody else round here takes pride and washes their car the old fashioned way, as for only washing your car when you are selling it the best purchace i ever made was for a run about for my girlfriend to learn in. there was half an inch of cow sh1t all over it up to the windows only the roof gave any hint as to what colour it was, on that rare occasion i took it to the local serviced jet wash and gave the guy a healty tip as he really earned his money on that, year and a half later its never missed a beat and she actualy likes the car and i have to admit so do i its got a kind of hidden charm kinda like the old pair of trainers you cant throw out

Nothing better than spending some time getting your car as nice as you can. I find it kinda relaxing too. My only complaint is that when I spend time polishing the motor it is usually a forecast for rain!!! I am only a recent convert to the art however as time is usually against me, but now i try my best. There are a few bits and pieces that are needing done now tho (rocker covers etc) which might take temporary preference. Ah well, the joys of motoring!!

i love cleaning the car, for me it is relaxation.....

I take all day to do it as well, the neighbours have got used to me doing it and they now think nothing of it, in fact i think a few more of them clean the car now as a result of me doing mine.....

Even if i only wash and chamois it i can take a few hours!!!

I enjoy sitting at my front door. Cup of coffee and a fag.  ;)

It's got that bad now that the regulars who walk past going to the shop ask "Not washing her today then?"

Ho Ho.

Seems the slang term for a ciggie is also deemed a bad word.  ;D

Wish I could wash mine properly but due to the hosepipe ban in this area I can't give the old girl a good going over and it's a waste of time with a bucket of water :( . I did see a new cleaning product in Auto Express this week which is for washing cars without water. Apparently, you spray it on, leave it for 10 mins then wipe off. Sounds good, but has anyone out there tried it?

Pleased to find that I am not the only one who finds it relaxing cleaning the car inside and out, sorry to hear Bob that you are on a hosepipe ban, we are still okay at the moment, fingers crossed.

I'm sure the car runs better when I've given it a good shampoo and polish. I suppose it must do, because it's lighter from the muck being washed off and when it's been waxed the wind resistance/air friction is reduced so you get better performance and lower fuel consumption.   ;)
