The latest piece of desperation to keep GM afloat. Retirees have given up their entitlement to dental treatment and some prescription drugs.

Dont get me wrong, I dont have a great deal of empathy with UAW members.
But, FFS, what exactly will that save.
GM are going into bankruptcy because they have been building expensive crap for years, losing money hand over fist. I wish someone would put them out of their misery.

Actaully, they have been making a profit.....its the burden of thier pension and health schemes thats dragged them down (plus over paid workers)

Not over the last five years they haven't. OK, the burden that the unions put on them didn't help, but, until recently they (the American GM) have lagged far behind the japs and suffered financially for it.

Actually this will save nothing..

but their main problem is really decisions with bad timing for the last years.. and too many models with bad sale ratios  increasing their expenses which they cant handle..etc etc..

And I dont go inside the details of their production quality

However I think new Insignia is a good but a bit late decision.. Even for middle east market..  :-/

GM was for decades the biggest and richest car manufacturer by quite a margin yet they were never a leader when it comes to advancement of cars. They just could not be bothered. The prime example of their views of their customers was when they made 5-gear auto box and aloowed it to be fitted to BMWs while completely ignoring the small fact that they have their own car which could greatly benefit from it. Don't let me even start on GM.
