Sky HD Question
« on: 06 June 2009, 19:00:13 »

I considered Sky HD a while back, so put an order in for the free install deal.  Because it has taken so long I have now decorated a carpeted my new home ready to move and do not want to disturb it all.

The dish needs to go to the rear for reception, but the cables will now have to go arround the outside of the building.

Is the likely to be quality isues with cable lenths.  Could be as much as 30 metres.

TIA  :y

30m ain't gonna be a problem at all, it will either work or it won't because it's digital.

Am on to the moving home team (For the 5th time/attempt to speak to them)

3 times I gave up after 30 mins.  Allready on 33 mins.

Service may yet get scrapped as this is PATHETIC. >:( >:(

Well I got through, warned them my phone was about to go flat.  managed to set a date, type of install (No multiroom)  gave my debit card details and the phone went dead.

Gave her my mobile number to ring me back in case of the above.......still waiting.

The installer will run the cables anywhere YOU tell them to, because you are the customer.

The siting of the actual dish is another story altogether though, because that has to be mounted "line of sight" (so you may not have too much say in that if you want the service).

Trust me, the cables dont go outside then it dont get fitted.  Think the dish location wont prove a problem.

Also, does the HD box allow a 2nd TV to be connected via a remote eye type setup, even if just standard channels.

You can use those remote eye jobbies without a problem, although it won't be HD as such because there is nothing out there that can transmit the HD signal (the best you can get ATM is composite video, plus L+R audio).

Having said that, Sky HD isn't true HD anyway so you won't be missing much on the second set.

They refused to do anything else when it was installed in my last house. Wanted it routed through the loft instead of round 3 sides of the house (with nails into the damp course, of course, cos that's easiest), apparently no problem according to the call centre. Fitter turns up "I don't do lofts". >:(

If you are at all fussy about how it needs to be installed, do it yourself.  :-X

Sage advice Kevin, installers will always take the easiest cable route and choose the most convenient dish location.  It's not a difficult job to do yourself :y

Got TV and aerial through the loft and sat cables along the side (as the dish is quite low), all 4 go in the same place and I ripped off a sat cable the first owner had put up.
