Better still (you're not supposed to wave chainsaws above your head) try lashing the branch to a rope thrown over a higher branch and get someone to hold the other end.  it can be made to swing away from you and can be lowered to the ground in a controlled manner (well mostly).

Not sure about that one, My mate 'One Arm Andy' is a Lumberjack will have to ask him the question.  :y
