Once they admitted there was a problem - reasonably quickly as well - I have to take my hat off to Microsoft for the way they have handled this.

Obviously this should never have been allowed to happen in the first place, but it did, and I think they have been pretty responsible about it.

I know its trendy to slag them off, but credit where its due :y

Sorry guys, I wasnt slagging Microsoft off.

As mentioned here, they send out UPS to collect it, they fix it, return it and all for free plus a new warranty (for the same problem only) and a months online membership.

My experience of them was positive, but as a gamer i couldnt bear to keep sending my machine away all the time and when it packed up again 5 months later Microsoft wanted £65 to fix it.......

My argument was that a console shouldnt be needing constant fixing......they lost a customer over it......!!!

Happy with the PS3 and not looking back......!

had no problems with mine so far (touch wood) mines one of the later ones with HDMI ports, which have an updated heat sink.

Mine is also on top of my desk which allows a lot of air movement, a lot fail because people put them under desks or shut in cabinets and they get too hot

just for the record, mine sat under the telly on a glass tray, like sky+, ps3 et al are supposed to - only time i've ever moved it was when we bought a new telly before xmas so - trust me i'v owned almost every console since the binatone and none have been better treated than the 360 (because i knew they were dodgy)
still died on me  :(
but it'll be back soon (hopefully)  :y

Don't they all have a HDMI port?? I thought they all had that. Mine does, bought it around September last year iirc, never had a prob bar it occasionally freezing when playing 'live'.

Yep, Xbox 360 is HD so all will have HDMI ports......

nah, the earliest ones (like mine) have a composite port - HDMI ports were added on later models - but it is capable of full HD - so, just another microsoft oversight which was later corrected  ;D
