Scratched Disks
« on: 24 July 2009, 18:02:31 »

Whats the best way for sorting them out?  I have been a numpty and scratched the disk so it can't be read by any of my Drives  :'(

I have seen (rather doubtful) videos and techniques posted around using toothpaste, peanut butter (?!) and bananas..... or is there something else I can get that'll do the job.  I know in the States there are shops where you can drop them off like a film and pick them up in a few hours nicely polished....

..otherwise, its my COD4 DVD.  I cant find a decent download anywhere...mindful of not getting one off a torrent site because of potential tweaks, trojans, etc.....

...any ideas?

I'll quite happily provide you with an ISO of COD4 if you want.

@ Admin,
Before you crap yourselves, providing a copy of the installation media does not breach any copyright.....the OP still needs a unique key (which is checked online) to install/use the game.

Try your local Game/Gamestation they'll usually be able to polish out scratches in a disk for you for a small fee.
Works fine with 360 disks so I would think it should work on pc DVDs just as well.

Gently rub with T-cut & then finish off with a good car polish (i use Auto Glym). Some cratches are so deep they can't be removed, but the polishing affect smoothes out the sharp edges & allows the lazer to follow where it should be. HTH :)

@ Gaffers,

I've sent you a PM containing the links to the full COD4 DVD.
It's a 6.8GB image file, so I hope you aren't with an ISP that gets pissy about bandwidth.

I remember when CD's were first due to be launched and on BBC's Tomorrows World they claimed they were going to be virtually indestructable no matter what you did on the surface of the disc!! ::) ::) :P :P
