PC - Security or Monitoring
« on: 26 July 2009, 14:34:38 »

I bought a new 24" 1920x1080 PC Monitor recently with a view to set up Sky HD and then to upgrade my monitor on the PC.

Finally got round to getting it working last night, but when I logged into my yahoo mail a message came up saying my screen res had changed and I needed to relog my details.

At 1st I thought this was a bit of added security, thinking that if someone used my details on annother PC thier screen res may well be differemt.

It finally dawned on me that they monitor screen size/colour setting etc (for improving thier service)

Makes you wonder what else they monitor, I am aware that we are tracked from site to site by these companies, but as I say, makes me wonder how deep they go on thier research.

The little forum I run picks up quite a few details about your machine.
It's all trivial crap (screen resolution, browser type & version, computer name, etc), but it's very easy to do.
