I've been meaning to ask for ages- what's the difference between a Global Moderator & an Admin. Do the Admins have more powers or some thing?

A Global Moderator is in charge of the world, the Admins are in charge of the entire universe.  ;) ;D ;D

I don't know how this forum splits it... but on past forums (forii ?) that I've been involved with ...

Moderators have the ability to edit/move/delete/lock any threads in "their" area, but cannot directly do anything to membership, (banning etc) only Admins can do that (but most times admins support/back up the Mods .. for good reason !!) Some sites allow mods to issue "warnings" which are then referred to admins for further action if disregarded.

Moderator : deals with a single subject area (like jimbob is doing to maintenance

Regional moderator  : deals with a group of areas

Global moderator : any area

Of course admins have all the powers (and more) of a mod

May not be how the guys here do it .. but that is the general drift of things

It's the acces power to the control panel I reckon.

Probably a modererator can do things like edit and lock threads, maybe even nuke them. (As Entwood said)

Where as Admin have full control to even Nuke us individuals. and can control the forum layout etc

Pretty much, yes. Though with the software we use, its reasonably flexible in how much/less access we can give to Gmods.
