Renault F1 team in trouble?
« on: 31 August 2009, 00:10:06 »

The FIA have launched an investigation into the result of last years Singapore GP.
Apparently the story is,Alonso won the race after having been nowhere the rest of the season. He had a fuel stop and shortly afterwards had the good fortune to have the safety car come out which allowed him to catch the cars in front,if this hadnt happened he probably wouldnt have been in a position to take the win.
The reason the safety car came out was that Piquet in the other Renault had an accident shortly after Alonso came out of the pits.It is alleged that Piquet was told by the team to crash his car deliberately in order to create the situation for Alonso.
I would imagine that the allegation came from the horses mouth (Piquet) as he was sacked by Renault a few weeks ago,and he is very  bitter about it.He has made several statements recently which suggest that Flavio Briatore isnt a very nice man. ::)

i don't know - have you seen the crash? it would take a brave man to plough into a concrete wall at that speed deliberately - i know f1 cars are very safe - and the driver knows he's got a great chance of surviving - i just don't think its something someone can ask you to do  :o

i think its sour-grapes on piquets part, it would be stranger if it never happened to be honest

how many times a season is the safety car deployed in a race? 10 at least i'd guess
theres 10 teams so law of averages alone would suggest that sometimes a team-mates misfortune would help you  ;)

still - it'll be an entertaining story either way  :y

Thats a fair point,it wasnt just a little tap on the wall like Schumacher did when he tried to stop anyone from beating him to pole a few years ago. >:( >:( god I hate that bloke.
I suppose it will depend on wether there is any hard evidence to back it up. :-/

no doubt cause Piquet has the hump after being ditched by them, so is spilling the beans

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/formula_1/article6834552.ece

the radio transcript doesn't clarify matters (but then would they be dumb enough to say anything over the radio?) the point that sticks out is the engineer questioning Pat Symonds about why they were calling Alonso in early.

the damning evidence for me, though, is the telemetry from Piquets car - on the throttle, lift off and stamps on it again through turn 14 - looks deliberate and induced the spin that sent him into the wall at a corner with no cranes or marshalls to hand.......i think the coincidences are beginning to mount up against renault - i doubt whether the FIA will take any action - but it certainly does stink  :-?

I think it may have gone a bit too far for them to take no action tbh. Also Briatore is on the same list of people mosley dislikes as Ron Dennis was.He might be hoping to finish off his enemies before he leaves his job. ;)

if briatore did this - he deserves all he gets - hope they throw the book at him, but i think FIA will find the evidence inconclusive, mind you the stink will linger

as i understand it, this was suspected long before Pique was sacked. Although the sacking was long suspected as well. Dont blame Pique for spilling the beans. They complained about his performance then asked him to crash, then eventually sacked him for non performance partly due to said crash.
More of a soap than a race series.
