Pleased to find a component has fallen off the Mig
« on: 14 September 2009, 21:12:22 »

It's not often one can say they're happy to find a component has fallen off, but I have to admit, I'm well pleased to find that it has.
What's he on about now ? :D

Well, my Air Con stopped working about a month ago and after confirming the system was sufficiently charge with gas, I feared the worst.
I took a photo of the compressor to compare with the one on my spares car, as I hoped it was just the electro magnet in the clutch that had thrown a wobbly.
On studying the photo, something wasn't quite right, so I slid the camera down to get a shot of the front of the compressor and found the clutch has gone A.W.O.L.
So, that explains the sudden A/C failure.
Nice easy fix-it. I think it's three bolts retaining the clutch.
So Wednesday it's coming off the spare compressor and...Robert's your fathers brother !! :y

Are you sure its three bolts  :question I have just taken my seized compressor off of the car (pig of a job) and it looks like one central nut holding the clutch on , even with this undone it would not come off looks like it will need pulling off with a puller to be honest and I doubt you will be able to do this in the car  :y

Sorry, I should be more specific. It's the Clutch "Pressure Plate" (The gold coloured disc in the link below) that is missing. Then it's the rotor/pulley and inside is the clutch coil, which is basically an electro magnet.

And actually it may not even be 3 bolts. It may be just the 10mm centre stud that screws into the middle of the compressor spline, but even if it's the whole clutch assembly, I have a complete spare compressor. Just didn't fancy having to change the whole thing.

Whoohoo !!  A/C doing it's thing again. Slipped on the clutch plate from my spare compressor. One 10mm bolt to secure it and a quick press 'n' hold of the buttons to re-set.
Sorted :y
