Now that I have become a Capitalist I just wish I could make some money.

I am a believer in challenging your beliefs from time to time as you go through life, its difficult to learn and progress otherwise.I do still try to look at things from a socialist perspective sometimes but keep coming back to the same things, one of which is ,where would the money come from.you must generate wealth, even the Soviets and now the Chinese couldnt avoid that stark fact in the end.
My other main objection is the freedom of the individual issue,I consider it to be a very precious thing and under a socialist system it isnt really possible. One contradicts the other imo.
they say the older you get, the more right-wing you become - so when does Nickbat get the telegram from the Queen?

albs - i was like you too - hated Maggie when she was in power and i was a bit of a socialist, nowadays you realise that life isn't that black and white. i'm all for individual freedom and hate this nanny state we're developing, i also believe that we have a duty of care to everyone in society - you can't just say "i'm alright Jack-and to hell with everyone else" thats not a society (theres no such thing as society, i remember Maggie saying...nice woman)
perfect example - that bastion of capitilism: banking, runs perfectly well on greed until it runs out of road, then governments rescue them with huge amounts of tax-payers money - socialism. once the banks are sorted they'll go on as before until the train comes off the tracks again.
then look at when the wall came down in Berlin, all those little piece of crap trabants trundling aound next to gleaming mercs, beemers and audis and it was a stark reminder of the gulf between east and west: if thats what 50 yrs of communism does to you: i'll have the nice car please

- no system is the be all and end all but i'd rather live in a tolerant, modern western country where i'm free to discuss it
