Bright sparks and a bit of a fizz
« on: 27 September 2009, 22:03:43 »

Looking into some seemingly random alarm activations I thought I should check out my charging battery voltages today (not sure if the alarm system actually monitors standing V or not).

Good job I did!   On moving the top (large) fuse carriers I heard a  bit of a fizz and then again so switched off.  Couldn't see anything amiss, so restarted.  Oops, then I spotted it.  The top pully wheel (PAS?) was sparking away like the 5th; a very quick switch off followed, and then a battery disconnect to be sure.

Last big fuse (away from the battery)  feeding two reds was being eaten through by the pully.

All repaired now - will see if alarms stop; but it must help!

Starter for ten:  what would I be missing if they have been completely decked and (hopefully) the 80A fuse taken out.
(I know, my garage if the fuse didn't quite blow and set fire the the whole show).
