Dentist....NHS V Private
« on: 28 September 2009, 16:17:13 »

I have just come back from my NHS dentist......As usual.....I had one filling ....plus a check up......Cost £45...The same price as for.....two....three... four ....five ....six fillings etc ..etc....
My question is this.....Would it be cheaper to have ONE filling done privately......does anybody know?.........does anyone on OOF....have private dental treatment?.  :-[ :-[ :y

No, its rather expensive private....probably talking 80+ quid and more for a white one.

And they are not better quality either (as I have found at to the detrement of our family recently!)

For one filling I think you're still better getting it done on NHS. My dentist used to treat me under NHS but like so many others has gone private only. My last filling was around £80, although it was a white filling, not silver. I think the amount they charge also depends on the size of the filling. :-/

Mine is a "silver "filling.......I'am not sure how much a white filling is on the NHS.
The check up is £15...............so I suppose you could say that it is "only" £30 .........for however many fillings you need. :y :y

Just over 100 for a huge one, private, but the treatment is a lot better, he uses numbing gel so the injection doesn't hurt.

He had to remove an old filling and replace it - he said is that over 20 years old? It was 15-16 at an NHS dentist and it was agony when it was done - she was a butcher.

My current dentist was NHS but went private due to too much red tape and not being allowed to use best materials for the job. He is pretty scathing about government mismanaging of dentistry.

There may be an NHS dentist in Worcester, but I can trust mine.

All the time.

Four weeks ago, I parted with £1800 to have ONE implant.

Simple facts are these......

If you are fortunate enough to have an NHS dentist, then make sure you keep him (or her) sweet.
If you are under an NHS dentist, then you won't be getting implants (you'll have to make do with a denture).
An NHS dentist will treat you like a mushroom (keep you in the dark and feed you bullshit), but alas that is part of their job description.

Lastly (but by no means least), it's the same rule as anything else......if you want the job done properly, then you have to pay the going rate.
