No.

The current setup does just fine taking cold air from under neath the car, all these gay boy filters do is suck in warm air next to the engine.

That actually make performance worse.

not sure if your product is panel or cone, but neither are recommended.

Panels specify a particulate oil sprayed on to work, this will bugger your maf when the oil sticks to the heated element within it.
Cones sit in the engine bay and draw warm air as opposed to cold air from outside as the standard set up.

Its also said that the stock filter being folded many times, has a massive area so is not restrictive in any way.

So what ever you do will only degrade performance. If there was an advantage to be had they would be fitted as standard by manufacturers.

If you must, i would think the panel would be preferable, with bare minimum oil applied, but best left alone really.

i have seen cone filters fitted on T5`s with a special made cold air box that takes cold air form near the fog lights up a pipe to the box were the filter sits in when the bonnet is shut the seal on top of the box fits snugg to the bonnet or you could just fully seal it in the box, the choice is yours though

Stick with the genuine Vx one for performance, don't believe the marketing BS for others.

* Note, genuine GM one has even larger surface area than supposedly identical pattern types

Stick with genuine mate.

The only time you even consider something like K&N is when you are spending £1000's on setting the rest of the motor up correctly.

will change the engine noise and make you feel you  are going faster.. :)

you need a whole tube system to take cold air..but if the setup is ok you may get 3-5 hp for a while..

(until your maf becomes donald)
