Battery Charging Question

Two 12v batteries wired in series, is it better to charge them with a 24v charger whilst still connected in series, or disconnect them, and charge each individualy with a 12v charger?

Charge them seperately matey. If one battery has a lower internal resistance then the other, you will have the batteries charging at different rates. :y

If in series, the charge current will be the same regardless of internal resistance.

Batteries connected in series should be the same battery type and capacity, and should be at the same state of charge (ie fully charged prior to being connected), that way they can be used and charged in situ.

Batteries have a higher resistance when discharged, so connecting 2 batteries in series, one fully charged and the other discharged, will have initial limitations on charge current for the charged battery. They will eventually charge to normal but will take longer than being charged individually.

As long as the batteries are the same and have had an equalising charge, then its fine to charge in series (which is in reality what is happening anyway as the 12V units are made up of a series of seperate cells)
