Standard cover is £250 or the value of the item, whichever is smaller.  Item value has to be proven with receipts etc -- and you have to jump through many hoops!!

If we send stuff we have sold the "value" is not the retail sale price (which is, in reality, our loss) but the wholesale price we paid.

Only hoop I had to jump through last time I claimed was to show an invoice for the goods that were damaged (which was fair enough).

True -- some have more hoops than others  :-/ I guess it depends upon the complexity of the claim ---- our SD parcels usually contain upwards of 20 items that come from various suppliers and were each bought in bulk -- so we have to supply all of the various reciepts with the particular item highlighted and do the math for them as to individual costings, etc. We also have to provide a spreadsheet with these breakdowns and cross reference --- real PITA to redeem what was RM's c*ck up.

More than likely.
My claim was nice & simple, £600 for 2 hard drives damaged in transit.

When you send anything Special Delivery they ask at point of posting how much is the item worth within the package. It's up to you whether you give under or over estimation, you will still I guess need to back this up with proof or invoices/receipts etc..
You don't think they are just going to cough up £250 on say a £50 mobile phone are you?
