Am I missing something?, what is the advantage of putting a Mig engine in a Capri, it is my understanding that the power from a ford V6 is similar, and the Ford engine is far less maintenance than a Mig V6

The Ford V6 is an asthmatic boat-anchor of an engine in comparison to an X30XE. :y

also all recent Ford V6 are designed for FWD, with Vx V6 already setup for RWD?

Not sure how much of a bonus that would be  :-/

Not really, you've got the Scorpio Cosworth which was a V6 out around the same time as the Omega which I believe is RWD

Back in the mists of time.......a friend of mine owned a Capri 3000E....1972 on a K plate......bright yellow with a black vinyl roof. :y :y
For the time it looked fantatic....and was a real crumpet catcher. :D
I remember it being very quick.....only 138BHP.....and a 4 speed box........but I believe it weighed barely one tonne.....  .......and had loads of low down torque.
but.....as kevin has said ....pretty breathless after about 4500 RPM.

addition....I have just come across an issue of "Motor" magazine dated 1974....the stats for the 3 litre Capri are....
Top speed .......119.5 MPH
0-60MPH.......8.6 secs
Petrol.............19.4MPG ..overall
Cost...........£2243....Ah those were the days... :y

The Essex V6 that went into the Capri is anything but recent though, and FWD was just a dream when it was penned.

Just look at the thing and you see that it belongs on the end of a chain a few fathoms down. ;)

There is an urban legend that it was originally designed as a block suitable for diseasel or petrol so they made the structure extra lardy and then dropped the plans for the tractor variant.

Add to that the nasty fibre cam drive gear that disintegrates... I think the X30XE was a wise choice before you consider the extra 70BHP.

Ford were caught red handed by some car magazine back in the day, telling porkies about the output of the Essex v6.They tested several of them and none of them were more than 115bhp.
Crap engine imo.

The Essex/Cologne V6's never pushed the power of the X30XE but with the right exhaust they did sound better! :D
