SAAB experts please Read
« on: 18 March 2007, 20:20:12 »

I know theres a few on here  :y

Just spied a cracking w plate saab 9-5 eco power 2.0 turbo

Bootifull  ;)

But its got bottom end damage. So its a strip down and replace bottom end or replace engine.

So moving away from Rovers and Omega engines....are SAAB engines readily available / is there compatibility acros the range and are there any significant pitfalls in doing this job.

Theres SIGNIFICANT money in the car as it stands if i can source an engine for under £1000

NOPE!!!!! Saab cranks have very little meat on them if you get a good one it can be ground just 10 thou if you get a bad one it cant be ground at all. 9.5 engines secondhand from a breaker are always around a grand or just slightly under as they are so sort after!!! thats probably the reason the car is cheap!!!

Would need to be seriously cheap.

Not very good cars, and the engines are a poor shadow of the old "proper" Saabs.

I decided not to go for it - on the basis i couldnt seem to source an engine in the 3 figure bracket ( ie sub £1000)

Was a beautiful car with fsh on w plate, auto with black leather, cd changer, unmarked body and alloys.

Went on ebay last night and sold buy it now within 2 hours.

£450 secured it. :-/

I'm not a SAAB 'expert' but I have found them to be nasty cars with shopping trolley like handling and similar looks. :-[

I'm no expert, just a real fan of the older (original 900 & 9000s) proper Saabs. :)

I have driven the 9-5 quite a bit and I really did not like it. It was just too... bland, something I never felt with the others.
Handling is still the same ("interesting" under hard acceleration!  ;))

The interior tries to be Saabesque but it is just not nice. The seats in the Aero version are good, but still the 9000 Aero seats are the finest I have ever sat in.

As for the engines. The B205 and B235 are evolutions of the tried and tested earlier Saab engines, but are not showing the same signs of longevity or reliability (based on comments from owners on Saab forums I still visit) at all. I know the B235 had a problem with sludging up of the oilways.

Just my thoughts....
