Flippin' 'eck, run out of drillbits
« on: 01 January 2010, 09:11:52 »

Tunnie's Sky mates: "What did you do on New Years Eve"
Tunnie: "Helped a fat bloke change an exhaust"

6 hours. 6 rather hours  >:(

Needless to say, all bolt bolts sheared. Knew they would. 3 drilled out reasonably OK, 4th - where I got a snapped drill bit stuck - must have taken about 3hrs. Reckon I left Tunnie with a pile of around 20 broken drill bits, and a heap of blunt ones. What a pig of a job.

Cheers Tunnie :y

I was cold, tired, and back was killing me.  Got home just in time - she'd done ribs :D. Watched the Top Gear Bolivia, then tucked up in bed by 10:30. Just got up now :o

I seem to recall breaking a bit off when drilling out the seized bolts.  It doesn't half add to the time it takes! And in the cold; and on a day when it's nice to be tucked up warm.
You get a sense of achievement nonetheless?
Well done both.

In the sense i got rid of the fat bloke from my garage  ;D

Decent drill bits did make big differance!

Once they were out, the replacement went on within half an hour.

Hopefully its settled a bit, was a tad noisey on start up

Yeah, went into the box of cheapies once I'd exhausted my supply of better ones.  Did try one of tunnie's, but that only lasted a few seconds before having no tip left.

Reckon it was having to drill down the length of a snapped bit that did the damage.

Exactly why it is one job I always pay someone else to do, also avoids rust flecks in the eyes. V. painful IIRC ;D ;D ;D

Not to mention punching yourself under the chin because no spanner will fit the corroded nuts!

Doesent that just piss you off, when the bit snaps, then try and drill it back out with another, and that snaps, especially in the cold when your fingers are stinging. >:(
