Laptop and viruses

Anyone on here know how to get rid of viruses from a laptop?,as its getting totally unusable.I have just loaded a mcafee security disk on it,but when i have scanned it,it doesent pick anything up,and the pop up thing still keeps poping up saying there are so many viruses in the system,click here to remove them,and when you click on it,they ask you for money.How do i get rid of it?. >:(

You probably don't actually have a true virus at all .. just an annoying little program that has managed to get onboard and is causing all the pop-ups.

If there is nothing important or irreplaceable on the laptop, a complete reformat/ clean reinstall would get rid of anything lurking away..

If you don't want to do that ... have a read here .. several differing solutions offered ..

Mark, download & install a programme called 'SpybotSD', it's free & bloody good at finding & getting rid of stuff like you've mentioned. Also, a very good Anti-Virus programme (free again) is 'Avast' HTH :y

try msconfig from commandline and disable unwanted programs from the tab "startup" .. so wont disturb you again..

Not sure which windows are you running, but here is a suggestion.
If nothing helps, you'll have to format the HD.
Before you format create two partitions oh HD, and reinstall the windows. Then use new partition "D" probably and install and store important programs and documents there so you don't loose anything in the future.
