Tow bar saves my back end
« on: 20 March 2010, 16:39:12 »

Hi, Had a little incident in the supermarket car park this morning, whilst slowly reversing out of my parking space, well out about 6 ft a jeep appeared on the end of my tow ball.
On inspection of the damage to his n/s front wing,he says(I must fix that) so I say lets exchange insurance details then.
Then a complete change of attitude by the other driver,he says lets forget it!, I,m happy with that,no damage to mine, but I later think to myself was this guy legal,or not .
Most people these days would claim whip lash or what,if they were in the right.
In my defence,I would claim that I was already midway into the roadway he should have stopped and give me right ofway.
Alfie.
Ps,the wife was in the car,and did not realise that I had hit anything, such how small the impact.

He was probably not insured Alfie, either that or he has claimed on his before & one more claim (probably knock for knock) would have cost him dear! Good result for you though  :y

As said good result for you, I bet he was trying to get some work done on his car for free. More than likely uninsured.

I agree he was probably not insured. However if you are backing out at no time do you have right of way

It reminds me of people doing multiple point U turns in the middle of the road and think they have right of way. They do not.

with it been in a car park insurance companies dont have to pay out i hit a volvo when i was reversing crushed all the rear door give my insurance details and they refused to pay the guy as its classed as private land you have to sue whoever owns the car park ie tesco morrisons and so on does seem a little strange that he had a change of heart tho id still let police and insurance company know just to cover yourself to be on the safe side
