Voice recognition software. Any ideas?
« on: 05 April 2010, 19:44:53 »

Hi everyone, hope you all had a good Easter.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of voice recognition software?

I'm looking to spend around £50. I've seen the IBM Via Voice, and the Dragon Naturally Speaking software.

I would be grateful for any help.

Best wishes

Dusty :-* :-* :-* :-*

Had to "play" with some of this a couple of years back for a disabled person..  Dragon was easily the best, but even so it took quite a while for it to "learn" the nuances of accents and pronunciation. The user tended to "talk" in a stilted fashion which actually made it worse from a "learning" point .. once I got her to speak naturally things got easier .. but it was never "perfect".

Newer versions might be better .. but IMHO anything "cheap" will probably have limitations .. :(

Thanks for that.

I did read that you have to train it for a long time. Something like 10 hours, but it works well.

You may be right. I will have to get a later version because of the operating system on my computer.

But you can train it with your own commands for paragraphs/parenthesis/delete etc...

Good bit of kit, but his was the top of the range version :y :y

I'm assuming this is to aid with the writing career? In which case I'd suggest investing a little more into the kit :y

Thanks Lazydocker

It is to help with the writing career. My third book went on sale last Thursday and is doing well. The trouble is, writing a 50,000 word book longhand and then transferring it to the computer, drives me crazy. I hope this software will be of help to me.
