Anyone successfully got their council tax banding reduced themselves? and was it a lot of effort?

Reason i ask, i had, the other day, an unsolicited letter from a firm of 'no win no fee' merchants, claiming there were houses in my street of lower banding than mine, mines in band C.

I thought perhaps they were probably on about a couple of houses that had been turned into flats....so i assumed they might be in band B.

Today i was having a look at the valuation office website......and nearly half the houses in my road are band B  and the flats are band A!

So, i now think its worth a go at getting my banding changed from C to B and apparently according to letter i received they can get a rebate if successful, back dated to when i bought the property.

The 'no win no fee' charge 30% if successful.....just wondering if its a lot of hassle to try yourself, or just let them get on with it and pay the 30% if they achieve anything  :-/

I dont really have much spare time at the moment, so inclined to let the 'no win no fee' mob do the work.

I went through it, as did all the people who have 3 bedroom bungalows around me, because they increased it and back dated it by 2.5 years

I also thought the law had now changed and the back dating only goes to the start of the financial year... May be wrong though :-/

I am inclined to pay them the 30% if they achieve anything....as i said before, not a lot of spare time at the mo.....plus they 'should' know what their doing and have the incentive, that they need to win to get paid

I did it successfully about 5 years ago. Dont remember the details now tbh, but it wasnt difficult.
wouldnt pay someone else to do it for me.

Must confess, I need to claim some PPI back on a loan but I'm thinking of letting a company do it and take their 25%

At the end of the day it's money I'm not expecting... Was doing bank charges myself but got screwed over

I was surprisingly offered a rebate from my Local Council last year from a Property I owned over 10 years ago with a polite letter asking me if I required the money (stupid question), think the whole road must of got it?

Nearly half the amount was taken up as court / legal fees and deducted directly by the Council.

i looked into it a while back, we're a higher band than everyone in the street for no reason, but my mind wandered and i forgot to chase it up - think i called a few times and it can all be done online, reasonably easy to apply, the difficult bit is probably getting money back

guess what i'm doing tomorrow at work now

i bough a two bedroom flat and in band d. I did ask why but no one got back to me i think i will have to chase it up
