Did notice you hadn't managed to get on much Ian. Hope all is well?

Have you finished off that PC installation yet?

Aye all is well matey thanks. Yourself?

Still cant decide what to do with the Omega - LPG wise...

PC - well, its still a 'work in progress'. I just hardly have any time to work on it. That said I've now added a second battery in the boot so I dont have as many flat batterys!

However, at the same time, I think I've found the cause of the weak batterys - a weak alternator. At idle batt voltage is 13.7v (with everything turned off and second battery disconnected – after a 20 min drive too). Rev it up to 2000 - 3000rpm and she will scrape 13.85v :-? Seems a bit low to me. Regulator maybe? :-/

Not desperately low... Acceptable IMO ;)

Yes I will check the earths again.

You dont think the voltage seems low though? Thats with no load on too.  :-/ I was expecting close to 14.4v at 3000rpm  :-X

You need to check it under load too... I wouldn't be panicking yet :y

If the battery is a bit low then thats fine or if there is electrical laod in place.

And Mr LD, there is no earth on a car......0V (the correct term) or at a push, chassis ground is as close you will get  :y

Quite happy to prove this to you one day with my Megger  ;D ;D

Excellent educational tool, that, as my 2 younger brothers will testify. ;D

One of them's now a sparky, too, so it was effective. :y

13.8v is on the low side of acceptable and, IMHO, if the car does short journeys in poor weather it may start to struggle. I had a car that was similarly afflicted and it could certainly have done with a higher charging voltage. It's also not typical of Omegas in my experience. Most are comfortably over 14v when not loaded.

As Mark says, though, if the battery is not fully charged it will be loading the charging circuit and giving an overly pessimistic reading.

Yes I will check the earths again.

Will do a load test within the next few days and post back.

I also noticed that the battery was around 12.1v (been parked up for about 6 hrs), which seems VERY VERY low! - I highly doubt the battery is at fault though.  :-X

I’m sure I will get it sorted - eventually!

Just seem to be running around like a blue-bottomed fly at the moment, and getting very little done! Oh well.  ;D
