Different Standards
« on: 27 May 2010, 21:29:51 »

The other day i posted a joke that was removed within minutes of me posting it.
Ok my post contained a rude word, but i spaced out the letters so as it didn't seem as bad & i actually thought it was ok (i wouldn't have posted it other wise).
Now i've just been reading a thread & one reply post contains a word that is not reversed, had any letters taken out & is made in bold type, the word is stawt. My word was stnuc, but with sixteen spaces between the letters like so C                U                etc.
Right, what's the difference :-/ :-/ At least i made a point of disguising mine :)
To me there's no difference & if one's allowed then so should the other, to me they're both equally offensive.
So what's allowed & what isn't???????????

I did head the joke as being "Rude"

I wouldn't like to see 'see you next tuesday' being used on here much tbh, but I saw the other thread in question and was a bit surprised, I agree

The sweary issue has become something of an old chestnut. As said some folk are more easily offended than others. Personally i could give a flip...(everyone knows what a flip is so why can't i say flip properly?
The all seeing eye must be flipping in frustration!!!!!!!! ::)

lets be practical here, this is a car forum all over us are over 17, some of us way over  ::)

There is a lot worse out there in the press/tv/radio/films/music.

One of Lilly Allens Tracks is called F*** you, guess what the main body of lyrics are?  ::)

So the argument that this is a 'family' site and have kids around, i think they should take a look at other sources of bad language and not the odd word on here!

Its a matter of reasonable balance imo, and the balance seems to hve shifted too far the other way recently. We had people using very strong language gratuitously, we now have threads being binned which seem harmless to almost everyone. But as I said in another thread on the subject, the admins are probably between a rock and a hard place.
